Hehe....I'm right there with you, Warden. I didn't know, for years, that Mass Dispel was stronger than Dispel. Like you, I thought it and Arch Cure was the same strength as Dispel and Cure, but just used for multiple targets at once. A friend told me to use Mass Dispel to get rid of my EVs that I just couldn't get rid of with Dispel......it worked first time. I didn't know that Arch Cure was more powerful than Cure until just now. It's like I have paid absolutely no attention over the course of the last 11-12 years. lol

nah Ive played UO since beta, and I am still learning new things every day it seems.

Just nice to have a guild forum like this to read and learn about them from others that have been using them.

You know, I have known about Mass Dispel and Arch Cure since I started playing back in 1999, but always thought they were strictly for multiple targets as described in the game UI. (Ok, back then the only thing the game UI said about them was for multiple targets...I probably haven't looked at it again since I came back.) Anyway, it wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when I couldn't dispel my EV's that I learned about Mass Dispel being more *powerful*, and even then it never occurred to me that Arch Cure was probably the same way.

Wow, sometimes I am a slow learner... :-D

yes theres arch cure, and its way better. I have a macro set for it to arch cure myself, then another macro to throw arch cure where I can target others. It comes in handy with the champ at tokuno CS.

Ha, yeah, the other nice thing about fighting at the front door is we were a long ways from the reptalons. I originally went in there in part to see how hard it would be to tame one of those. Ouch! It's crowded and nasty back in there. If I spent some more time at it I might find a way, but I'm thinking it would be better to bring along somebody who has tamed them before. It's amazing what I learn from people like that. :-D

Speaking of which, I wanted to say thanks to the group that took me along to tame Bane dragons last night. Of course I now can't remember who all it was since we all have about 6 names around here. I think one of the tamers was an alt of Chalnoth? And he gave me one of the dragons?

I went back later and tamed two more. I didn't have anybody to peace for me so I tried honor. I must say, that could work really sweet once I have more of it. I had only earned enough honor to use it on myself twice, each time lasting maybe a minute. But while it was active it was perfect. The dragon didn't even see me as being there, as he didn't even heal himself much less attack me. (I've noticed that when you beat down a mob, they only actively heal themselves when a player is still in the area.) With only two shots with honor I didn't succeed, so when I actually tamed them it was just with lead taming, after using my mare to beat them down. I died twice, both times because I couldn't heal the poison that they always spit at just the wrong times. (Thanks for showing me the tree, by the way.) Those times I would fail with one or two greater cure potions plus about 12 attempts with magery, but at least it gave me a chance to run off and die where there was no spawn.

This just occurred to me... is there and Arch Cure spell or something that is more powerful than the basic cure? Why didn't I check in to that last night...

LOL Yeah, I suck at fighting Miasmas alone. I always get a raptalon on my butt.

Post by Warden » Wed Jun 30, 2010 3:04 am

By "Miasma" do you mean that lightening-fast, hyper-aggressive scorpion in the Labyrinth? I'd love to, when I find a good way to kill him. I killed him once and while I don't think I ever died myself, he killed my hiryu about three times. The only thing that saved me was he had chased me all the way to the entrance of the dungeon, so every time my hiryu got low I could jump on him, ride outside, heal/cure, then jump back in. If I was fast enough.

After Ice Fiends, I find that Miasma is good for fame and honor and karma. It is not as easy, particularly with a pet which might wander off and attract reptalons.
But if you're soloing as a warrior, you can really max out while farming for chests. Those spawn as loot in Miasma every 10-40 kills or so. Miasma's fame is 24,000.

well to be more accurate you are not really peacing them you are just making them ignore you...and yes when you target yourself to do this the length of time they will ignore you is based on honor level and you will lose honor every time you do it...I believe you lose it fairly quickly...so is something you may want to use sparingly...LOL

Post by Warden » Tue Jun 29, 2010 4:41 pm

Thanks, dlwiii. Yeah, I have been finding the ice fiend room to be extremely easy farming with a pet, and they give more fame than ogre lords (up to 18k vs. 15k) The only downside is I can't gain vet since healing has to be done from a distance via magery so the fiends won't retarget.

I tried harder at getting honor from ogre lords last night and it went well, I seemed to make honor a lot faster than before. I picked them because they are so slow it made it easy. I would stand and let one aggro me, then honor it, then invis just as he got to me. Then sick my hiryu on it and start healing. All of this kept me from having to move from the spot I honored it from. I did NOT let him actually damage me first as that gets messy fast, but like Isaid, this seemed to work pretty well. I can't think of a way to make it work with ice fiends, though, again because of that frost aura they put off.

One more question... is honor then consumed when you use it to peace mobs? Like you can use it all up and have to go earn more to use it again?

Post by dlwiii » Tue Jun 29, 2010 2:14 am

I just sit in the Ice Dungeon and farm the Ice Fiends. Got an Ice Slayer Tali and a Demon slayer weapon. It takes a while, but gets fame and karma and honor all up high.

You will get honor even if you have high fame, but you won't get honor from anything much less tuff than troglodites or ogre lords. I don't play a tamer so can't compare how fast you gain, but for my archer its pretty slow.

Post by Warden » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:31 pm

Thanks, Chalnoth. I have been.

I'm worried that using tamed pets will render about the same honor gains as a mage's summoned EVs and such, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see. My fame is usually hovering just above or below Lord status (10k) so most things don't give me any fame. Does it have to give me fame to give me honor? Or since my honor is so low I should still get honor from most everything?

Welcome Warden. Sorry I havent been around to welcome you, but i see yoiu have been in good hands.

Post by Ciara » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:23 pm

It gains very slowly. What you are describing I would call "normal". Honor is a good thing to do while skill gaining and gold farming. I used to go to Painted Caves to train on troglodites, and I would honor every one I could. They top off eventually not giving any more fame or honor, but at low levels of fame and honor they gave me decent gains.
