Account Security and the Security Challenge Question

In order to add an extra layer of password security, new accounts are required to choose a security challenge question and answer. However, existing accounts can also add this - and we strongly recommend that all our players do so. Instructions after the jump:

To add a security challenge question to your account, please do the following:

1. Visit the Account Management Page
2. Select "Create Account." (Yes, this is counterintuitive.)
3. Select "Already have a member account" and log in using your EA member account. NOTE: this may be different than your UO account name - in particular, older accounts may follow the pattern "uo_youruoaccountname."
4. The next screen should give you the option to select a security question.
5. Follow all prompts to create a security challenge question and answer. 6. Type carefully, and choose an answer that only you would know.
7. Hit "Cancel" - unless, of course, you want to actually create another UO account The security question will be applied to your account.
8. Hit "Cancel" again.
9. Test the question by requesting your password. It should now ask you your security question.

This security question will be used whenever someone requests a password for that account. If you forget your answer, you will have to contact Customer Support to get it reset.

This does work unless your account name is too long, which mine was. So I had to call them to add the question. The number is 1-866-543-5435.

If you get hacked or are unable to log into your accounts due to password being changed without your permission, call 1-866-543-5435, wait for system to start talking, and press 0. Do this twice more then wait for system to start talking and press 2, system says sorry and connects you to a live agent. You have to be very specific of what you ask the EA representative. You MUST ask for your password and verify the 8 digits of the credit card attached to the account and give a valid email account.

You can also now go to the EA Support live chat...the wait time may be kind of high but you won't have to worry about killing the batteries on your cordless or cell phone or giving yourself carpal tunnel while holding a phone for two hours waiting for an answer...

Bump.

The menu options have changed since I first posted this. It seems you need option 3, for Origin, and it has to be during business hours (which end at 9 central time, so if you get hacked after that all you can do is get PAS who are online to try to keep your character dead and loot you dry so the hacker doesn't make off with much).
