MSI fer teh win.

My current board is an MSI K4N Neo Platinum 4. Best board I ever owned, and not a problem with it for the 16 months I've owned it so far.

no. A video card is an important part of having the ability to run the games you want to run. Onboard video isn't usually that good.

ASUS or ABIT. I did MSI once, board fried memory. They had a stack of refurbished ones, the tech said "What saleman sold you the MSI?" I pointed and he said, "That guys has no idea what he's doing here."

On board video is great for basic computing. They usually share video memory and main memory. It's bad. Expect to spend $100 minimum on the video card. MINIMUM.

Single chipset? Sounds cheap...... thus poor performance.

Check out Sharky Extreme for some decent reviews. Also PC Gamers, and others. Tons of review info on the web.

I never buy unless I review, and I'm not a uber techie. Lots of these sites have level of comps they build, entry, performance, uber-doober.

Ohh, if you are keeping your old case beware cooling and the power supply. Newer processors need better cooling and more power.

MSI is good, you got a lemon. Lemons exist in every brand...but I don't buy used anything...not when dealing with computers.

I have 4 1gig memory sticks that haven't had a problem. And considering I went a year before I ever blew the dust out of my case, I think it's pretty reliable.

Of course I only buy parts that come with a warranty.

Yea, I sure did, and it was a new one btw. Not saying that MSI is bad, but ASUS and ABIT always get great reviews and many times are the choice of the builders/reviewers who do this for a living. Anyway, I think what matters most is spend time on review sites. The price point for a new built comp not including keyboard/mouse/monitor is about $800 to start. Methinks that would run UO KR just fine. Thats case, power supply, memory, motherboard, processor, hard drive, extra fan or two, and a video card. The sound built into these new motherboards is plenty enough unless your going to be hooked up to a 7.1 $3500 stereo. It also has good enough USB, RJ 45 cable, and wireless capabilities.

There is a $250 Ethernet card you can buy that has it's own co-processor to help reduce your ping. And $500+ video cards. Thats over the top and fun to dream about.
