It was a quiet evening on the open ocean. Kaeles had just completed a very long day of crabbing for Landra. He had to get the crabs to Skara Brae before the little critters dried up, but he was taking a break from the work and just enjoying the open ocean. No other ships in sight and miles from land.
He relaxed enough to shift into his true form, a luxury he rarely allowed himself, and never where anyone would find him. He enjoyed a meal, raw fish tasted so much better as a Kitsune than as a human, and some fresh water. Curled up on the deck, letting the ship drift slowly, staring up at the twin moons.
Then, something wasn't right. His sensitive fox like ears heard waves breaking on a shore. “I should be miles from land”, he thought. Another thought had him back in human form and reaching for his telescope.
That was when he saw it. An island where none should be. Checking his maps and a quick sextant reading to verify he hadn't drifted too far, he found that there was no land here. But how could that be, Britannia was well charted.
Then he remembered hearing tales of an island that moved about in the oceans. “Interesting”, thought Kaeles. Before he could think of anything else he saw movement around the island. It looked like a fleet of ships.
Keeping quiet and thanking his lucky stars that there were no lanterns on deck to betray his location thanks to a bit of magic he had learned, he sailed in closer keeping the island's bulk between his ship and the fleet.
As the Revenge came in closer, Kaeles kept watch. And soon his vigilance paid off. In the lead of the fleet making landfall as he watched, was the Starfire Escort. “Ancy will want to know of this” Kaelis mumbled to himself.
As quickly as a stealthy departure allowed, Kaeles set sail for Skara Brae. He would have to drop his load and find Ancy. Now what was the name of that tavern they had met at a few weeks ago? I'm sure a message left there would find him the fastest.
