So what's the best mage template out there right now?

So far I have GM Med, focus Only reason I did focus is because it was a passive skill and it will help me with magery when I train that) and Spirit speak. Of course I am also getting my EI, magery and resisting spells up.

I know with power scrolls the 7X GM is a thing of the past, so here are the templates I am debating on.

Power mage
120 Magery
120 Med.
120 EI
120 resist
120 Wresting
100 Spirit Speak

or poison mage

120 Magery
100 Med
120 EI
100 Resist
100 Spirit Speak
60 wresting
100 poisoning

What are you going to do with the mage?

I will prolly start out using him to get gold, but eventually I hope to use him a lot for PVP.

Is this the same DS from 1st?

yea, that's me.

Were you in 1st or one the guilds they fought with? Farimir sounds familiar...

I haven't played UO in a few months and a bunch of new stuff came out. I read the five on fridays and the patch notes though, but there's probably a bunch of new templates.

A few months ago people were playing tamer mages with dread war horses and some good macros... If other folks are still doing it, then it's probably a good idea. (primarily for pvp)

Necro mage has been pretty standard since AOS too--
mage, med, eval, necro (only need 105), spirit speak (noticeable difference between 100 and 120), resist, use a mage weapon instead of wrestling.

If you're just coming back to UO and don't know stuff yet, you'll need 2 faster casting and 5-6 fast cast recovery on your suit somewhere. Jewelry is the typical place. Most of the good people used ornament of the magician, so if you've got a bunch of money it's a good place to start.

Try to get eval high and see about a 120 scroll. The damage difference between that and 110 or even 115 is noticeable. I'd make it one of my first big purchases if I had to start the game again.

Read about what the mage weapon attribute does and think about it instead of wrestling.

spirit speak is ok but there are probably other things you can do with the points if you don't have necro--unless you're doing something cool with wraith form...

Now Now DS, o just never mind, I'd sure like to talk with you again buddy. But i guess DF has ya hooked?

Farimir DS is a great PvPer's and I have learned alot from him on how to put things together, weather they be suit or weps or even spells combo's and key set up's.
Now that DS has a Big head again, Not like E.F Hutton, where we all stop and lestin, But he was getting there  lol. Nothing but love Pal.

Do ya have any soul stones? if not try and get full ones for your acct, not some deco junk ppl sell. It will give any mage room to grow and is alot of fun playing dif style's.

Magik Wit My Mage is this,
120 Magery, Ev Int, Med, Resist, Wresting. Get a +25 stat scroll and make sure you have 125 int and the rest in Str.

Yeah DS I still use it, And it rocked. I also use a 1handed sc mage wep. I will not cast any spells over the 6th circle cuz of the lil longer casting time but some times ya may need to. Ya can get good at maken players run when ya fight in group's and when I was in the PAS pvp field fighting I knew I could count on someone else casting that FS when Im casting posion, fireball, curse, weaken, etc....But it all comes down to wut you feel you play better at.
Good Luck!

awww DS I can't beleive you forgot about me. :( Don't you remember the macer/healer mage who kicked you all of NJ :) or the 2 on 2's we have Me and Dash against you and someone you claimed was a "noob" which is why you always lost to us

If I remember correctly you even re skilled DS so his template was like mine after a few deaths and then after you joined PAS we teamed up and kicked some major rear end.

Anywho enough down memory lane.

If I understand mage weapons right I could drop spirit speak and train macing get a spell channeling war hammer with spell channeling fire ball (if that even exists)

NO! The magery skill your at is used instead of your melee skill. So find yourself a SC mage -20 mace, with hit fireball or lightning or harm, whatever.
