Bob is still extremely groggy from the pain meds cocktail they are giving him intravenously, but they did bring him out of the induced coma yesterday. He is aware enough to know he no longer has his left arm and he is understandably stunned and almost in a trance from the shock of it all. It is very difficult to get a response from him when anyone tries to converse. His doctors told the family that he will be depressed for quite some time, probably despondent, and that we are to watch him closely. They fear he will become morbidly depressed and attempt suicide when he is able. At present, he is a mere shell of the man he was and we pray he will regain his old self. He appears too have lost around 25-30 pounds. The doctors said they are encouraged by his progress over the last 22 days, though.
With the help of his daughter and Ciara's (?) instructions, I was able to pay for his game for several months each. I'm not so sure he will ever want to play anything again, but his daughter thinks it would be good for him to get back to doing something she said he had loved playing (addicted to, according to his ex-wife) for well over a decade. She is probably right. I don't know what to expect. He is my best friend and has been since we were in fire school together in 1976. I am very afraid for him.
Thank you for your prayers. He needs them badly.
His daughter told me that someone in this game, I am sorry I forgot who she said, had sent them cookies for Christmas and to tell you that he had them all eaten within 2 days and raved about how good they were. Now that sounds like him. Ha ha. She asked me to thank you for that.
It is late and it has been a long day here. I will try to keep you updated when I can.

OMG this is wonderful news and shocking news all at the same time...please give Bob all of our love I think about him every day and I know he will bounce back and be there with us

Thanks for the update. The progress sounds good, but a long road lies ahead. Im sure his PAS family will do all they can to help him through this recovery process. It looks like he is very lucky to have a friend like you and we appreciate what you are trying to do for him.

Our prayers continue for him. Hopefully in time he will return to himself. It is a lot to adjust to but with help he will make it.
