New Puter comin AND .... NEW JOB!!!!! =)

Postby Valkyrie » Fri May 18, 2007 12:46 am

This week started as a bit of a bummer. Then it got better. :)

I went to work Sunday night and shut my main gaming computer off. Monday morning when I got home from work, it wouldn't start. It just died. :(

So I did what any redblooded American girl would do and went SHOPPING for another puter. Didn't get anything top of the line, just a dual processor 4mb L2 cache, 2.13GH 1066FSB w/ 2G of ram & a few nifty lil addons, but it'll be much nicer than what I had. :)

Right now I'm not gaming much since all I have is my ole 1.8 ... one puter, and a slow one at that, just doesn't cut it. LOL But the new puter will arrive on the 22nd. YAY!

Which is two days before I start my NEW JOB! (Yea I'm starting on a Thursday.) Wednesday while I was moping about no gaming machine, I got a call that I'm hired for a job I'd applied for a few weeks back.

When I asked my new boss when she wanted me to start, she replied, "yesterday". But she allowed me to give my current boss exactly one week's notice. So I'll start on Thursday. I'll be doin data entry then get promoted to customer service (more money) when I'm ready. The job's starting pay is only 50 cents per hour more than I make now, but it has medical benefits, sick/personal days, paid holidays off, promotional opportunities and annual raises. It'll also give me more good stuff to put on my future resume. Overtime is OPTIONAL, not madatory like at my current job, and there's plenty of OT to be had if I want it. Best of all, it's a DAY job, so I should start attending PAS events soon. :)

I'll probably keep my current job until the end of June, working on weekends. So yall won't see me on weekends until July.

Gotta love it when a sucky week turns out so well. :)

Congrats on the upswing of your week.

I have been there with the instant dead machine before, it pretty much sucks, but a great excuse to upgrade. 8)

As for the job, best of luck.

Did you check to see if the Power Supply died?

I agree with Cent - check it out because it may serve as a back up later.

Yes the power supply died, but replacing it wasn't a cure. Something else died also, we don't know what. And I wasn't about to start spending money replacing parts when I didn't know for certain what else was wrong.

I'd rather just have a new puter. LOL

Yeah, sadly depending on if the power supply just stops or surges it has potential of taking out several other components. If it surged when it went out, it most likely took the motherboard with it. Depending on the level of power that surged, it could have taken the cpu, memory and/or HDD. Those parts are just as likely to be good for spare parts, but if cpu/memory not compatible with new system, then the HDD maybe the only thing you can try and salvage.

And whenever multiple component failure on an older machine, best bet (and most fun) is total replacement (and upgrade of course). I always hated working power problems when I repaired laptops, cause as soon as fixed power issue then had to start over and diagnose all over again.

Enjoy the new puter, and keep the old for spare parts. I have a closet full of 'em dating back to my original 486. I got them all back to working states after replacement, so waiting till I get a bigger house to setup a museum of ancient technology. :P
