I use a similar method, but let me add a few things for you. This is just what I do and may not be the "best" method, but it works for me and I don't loose traps unless it's due to another boat messing up my run or a mosnter spawning in the wrong place.
I use the Tok boat as it gives a bonus on your fishing/crabbing. Not sure how that works, but in comparison to dock crabbing, out of 100 traps ended up with between 7 and 13 more "named" crabs per run. Too much to be just luck but not steady enough to say "the bonus is this".
I use a timed control macro to do the dropping. Stand to one side (I use South side facing West 99% of the time). Commands are for UO assist but I'm sure its simple enough to dupe in the enhanced client.
Start:
Say "start drop"
Pause 1 Sec
Say "Slow forward"
Pause 31 sec
Say "Come about"
Pause 31 Sec
Say "Come about"
Pause .1 sec
Say "Stop"
End Macro
This should let you drop traps in the water all the way down and then back on the other side of the boat and leave you right in place to pick up the first trap you drop. By the time you start picking up the traps, the others will cycle by the time you get to them. I pick them all up before starting to empty them.
Later i got really lazy and added in dropping the traps by the Macro as well. It runs basicly the same, but with a lot of "use object", "target Releative", and pauses for 1.5 secs.
If you want to see it for yourself, yell when you see either Cerb A or Nightfall and I'll take you on a run.
Later,
Aaron
