Anyone seen this before? Or know of anyone using it??

Saw the ad on TV last night, turn to the wife and ask her if we should change to that, she goes it cannot be real, so I went on line and found the site and listen to the reports posted there from TV networks.

Hmm, interesting. I was thinking of switching to Vonage and eliminating my land line, but with all the discounts I get for my DSL it wasn't really going to save me any $$ so never did it. But this could save me about $100 a year.

Still like software based so I can use with my PDA in public WiFi areas. When Skype had unlimited free last year I tried it out and was using it on my PDA and home PC.

So, I just got to decide if I want to save $ and go with that hardware based device, or go pure software based like vonage or skype.

I don't know anything about Magic jack--

My Cable Company WAVE has me in a bundle package Cable TV, Fast Internet, and Telephone with free long distance. I pay $127. a month. I allows me to call anyplace even oversees for the flat fee. It is ideal for me. I am saving 0ver $50 a month.

So if will save you money, it may be what you need.

Try and find out if anyone else is using Magic jack and how they like it before taking the plunge.

Well, took me a year to try it out.. But I just got my device in the mail this morning and testing it out.. So far it appears to live up to the hype.

The ONE thing i don't like, is the software pops up whenever get a phone call or even if someone picks up the phone. So, i will be fixing my 2nd PC and moving it over to there.

What I like:
Bandwidth usage is tiny.
CPU usage appears low as well
Voicemail works even if PC powered off.
Receive Email with attached WAV file of voicemails.
Simple to install, no CDs or anything just the USB Dongle (basically it has a USB drive on it that has the software, so can move to any PC.)

Now one of the limitations of a VOIP is limited to one phone jack, but plug a cordless phone into it and good to go.

If all goes well, I will look into disconnecting my landline and re-wiring the house so I can plug the magicJack into the wall and use any phone jack so the TiVo and other devices that use phone will work (have read about people doing it although not with 100% success depending on the devices).

A friend of mine downloaded free software from the Internet and can make free phone calls via his PC to anywhere in the world. I'll have to find out what that program is named and if it is still available. Basically, the Magic Jack company just inserts themselves as a "middleman" in between that same program and the phone line just so they can make money off of you for no reason.
