Presley just asked me a question that I don't know the answer to:

"Does having Inscription on your Mage help in battle in any way?"

Yes. Inscription at GM = 10% spell damage increase.

And for pvp, SDI was capped at 15% last I knew, and the 10% from inscription goes beyond that, making the effective cap 25% for pvp.

Not sure if those numbers have changed since I quit following or not...but inscription definitely has its use in combat.
