Role Play On Sonoma

Postby kaylor » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:00 pm

I am wondering about role play/writing on this shard. Are there guilds dedicated to rp or rp within guilds such as PAS and if so, how may I become involved? Who should I speak with, etc? If not, I am interested in establishing such a guild, or perhaps sub-guild to PAS with those who may like to rp/learn to rp and create story lines here.

Thanks.

I am not aware of any current role playing guilds on Sonoma. Queen Mum wold probably be the best source for that info. KD and Ciara have historical knowledge and may be able to assist.

As for me, I think I would be interested in a little role play myself. Probably have to convince Jo to come along. I would say it's worth a try to do something within PAS. We can set-up a vent channel, maybe schedule a tutorial for an event to see just what the interest is.

Staying within PAS sounds good to me, sir. Would love to discuss it further, perhaps in vent or ICQ or we could even set up a meeting in game with open invitation to those in guild who may be interested?

In the past we have had roleplaying active within guilds on Sonoma. Kaylor, you should look into the forums. Our founder, King David, has some wonderful stories about his life and family history. viewtopic.php?t=4058 Some of you may remember Pup Barleycorn, who was in KVP, and who roleplayed an Elizabethan gentleman. Pup even had a website on how to play that part.

I'm not sure if I can find them, but my good friend, Kimmie, wrote books on roleplaying and gave classes when she was in KVP. She loved and encouraged roleplaying as well as acting in plays in UO. Sadly, she is no longer with us.

I have been in several different roleplaying guilds on Siege Perilous, and it was a challenge. I have been in both fantasy groups, and an Elizabethan reenactment group in UO.

I am not currently roleplaying, but would be glad to talk to you about your wish to roleplay, and see if others might want to get involved.

I agree with Chalnoth, that Queen Mum would be a great person to talk to about what is currently going on, as she seems to know about everything regarding current UO events (outside of pvp) :)

Hope to get to visit with you soon, Kaylor. Once again, glad you came to Sonoma and hope you have a great time here.

In the early days of UO 1998-1999, there were 2 or 3 guilds that predominately roleplayed their chars. There werent many folks in those guilds, so they never showed up on the "top ten" list of guilds. They ended up going to roleplay facilities like that tower near yew (sheesh I cant remember the name, but I bet Ciara will know it).

I believe there were 3 or 4 "towns" that roleplayed some of their chars as well.

Unfortunately those players ended up leaving UO. I "technically" roleplay my main char (KingDavid) as the one true King of Sonoma, but I rarely roleplay ingame with that character.

Some of the fun history of UO is found in this post I made that has notes about PAS through each year of UO ...

http://peoplesarmyofsonoma.net/viewtopic.php?t=7296

The Sonoma Alliance was partially roleplay, partially not.

One of the funniest events of that Alliance of "good guy guilds" was the very first meeting. At the time, DeGuy of PAS and I as real life friends talked on the phone while we played UO. He told me he didnt like us accepting BLD as a guild because he thought their gm was a looney *smiles*.

I believe his name was Grunk, Half Orc. Anyways, I'm talking ingame at that first meeting of SA and Grunk starts emoting that he's looking at the guys armor next to him. Then he sees fleas and starts picking them off and eating them. Of course, DeGuy says on the phone, YEAH that was a good move to accept them!

The good part is BLD became very good friends with PAS, and Grunk and I had some fun adventures, where one or both of us roleplayed our chars.

I was sad to see that I hardly have anything on these forums about the Auburn Quest. I cant find anything on my computer here, so I'll summarize that event.

Auburn was a soothsayer that could see the future. One day he saw his death in the future and went mad, tearing up his diary that listed all the things that were going to happen in the future. He went around Britannia, tearing a page here, another one there, etc.

According to the KD story, when KD and PAS arrived at Sonoma, no one recognized KD as the King, nor did anyone recognize the other PAS. KD was sure that Lord British had cast a spell on the people to make them forget who KD and PAS was.

So KD recruited more and more PAS, and when KD heard the rumors about this madman named Auburn, he wanted to look for those pages, because if he could find the page that described Lord British and his spell, he might be able to find a way to break the spell, and could have evidence that Lord British did this.

So every so often, I would run an Auburn Quest event. I typically ran all the chars in the event, but every so often some other PAS would help me out.

I would meet with PAS at NJ and give them the first clue, then I would log KD out and log into chars that I had placed at various locations to talk to PAS and give them the next clue. It was a lot of work, but it became a very popular event.

We never have found that page yet btw.

Another fun roleplay we did with about 6 other UO players helping was the capture and then trial of Lord British. I believe we spent 4 or 5 events before we caught up with Lord British, and it was a char name that LB was known by in the old Ultima games.

When LB was caught, we had a judge, a prosecuting attorney, a defense attorney, a few jurors, and a few players playing witnesses that were called to the stand.

It was a blast, as it went 5 or 6 45-60 minute sessions before the judge declared him insane and ordered him to prison for life (so technically he was not innocent or guilty in the end).

The real fun part was nothing was scripted. Everyone just played their characters like they felt they would act, etc. So no one was sure of how it would end.

We had a dozen or so regulars that came along with PAS guards to the trial, and it was open to anyone to come watch.

Another roleplay we did was with our CSA (Cross Shard Alliance) allies. That's an alliance that I made by visiting other good aligned guilds on other shards. My goal was to get one guild on each server that was similar to PAS, and we would do things like cross shard trade with each other when Xmas gifts were out etc, and would do cross shard events.

The first cross shard we ran was a pirate invasion of Buc's Den. Our Nappa CSA allies were there (about 15 or so), plus 1 or 2 from another shard. They created noob pirate themed chars, and we had a house where we had stashed tons of pirate gear (cutlasses, skullcaps, etc)

We also had gm made purple pots, so they could at least do some damage. Anyways, I believe the story of that invasion is somewhere on these forums, but the short version is that pirates had their chests of gold (provided by PAS), and they were at Buc's Den to bury their treasure.

That's when a lot of reds hung out at Buc's Den, and we landed the pirates and the pirates started roleplaying their chars, and the reds were mouthing off etc, and then a red opened a chest and saw 60k gold and yelled THERES REAL GOLD IN THE CHESTS. Then the reds started looting the chests, and all the pirates started chunking their purple pots, and actually killed one or two reds. The best part was the panic by the reds, as they were all around the chests, and the pirates blocked some exits, so they started yelling OUTTA MY WAY and other fun things at each other.

Of course, once the pots were gone the pirates would surround a red and fight him, but the reds just laughed and killed them in 1-2 hits or spells.

I remember one guy yelling "Noob" when he killed a pirate, and another pirates yelled "We pirates have already drawn blood and sent 2 of yer mates to Davy Jones' locker!". Of course the red killed that guy in 1 hit and yelled "Noob" again rofl.

Then there was the Presidential cross shard event we supported in Sonoma. We asked players to create named chars for their presidential candidate (Bush, Gore and the other guy that was an independent hehe cant remember right now). Anyways, there was about 20 Bush, 20 Gore, and 10 of the independent.

We gave them a minute or so to yell threats and then we started the fight. Guys were sparring with each other to get their skills up right till it started. Then most of the Gores fought the Bushs, and the independents sat back and waited. I believe the Gores finally killed the Bushs, but by then they were down to like 4 guys, and the independents ran in and killed those 4.

What a blast!

Oh, and I have to mention the RMH (Red Monkey Horde). It was a guild of red noob chars that were archers, and when we killed people we only stole bananas and hats from the victims. this was a blast, because we could pick where to go and attack people, and the other players had a blast with it too, because we each carried lots of gold with us, so when we died (which was almost all the time), the others would get a nice reward.

We always had a guy with us to res the folks we killed as well, and to explain it was roleplay etc.

Those red monkeys were mostly PAS, but we ended up with about 15 other UO players who mostly did not want me to share who they were (sometimes because they were enemies to PAS).

They all played nice though as RMH and we all had a blast.

OK I'm worn out posting this, so I'll stop here.

But that's most of the history of roleplay that PAS was involved in.

Oh yeah and the Followers of Armageddon (FOA) is in that link above about the history of PAS.

I hope this gives a good background of the history, at least that I was involved in.

Oh crap, I just remembered all the shard wars we did. I think there's posts for some of the battles we had in the UO/PAS stories forum.

We had a lot of other shard wars, but these were the biggest battles that Sonoma has ever seen. The largest battle was a 75 vs 40 or 50 at Trinsic if I recall. Oh my god that was fun (and should be listed in the UO/PAS stories forum also.

WOW KD! What wonderful RP history! I so enjoyed reading your post and will follow the link to read more. Thank you for sharing all of it with me.

My character Kaylor has quite an extensive history. Mikhaeil is a fairly new character who I've played for only a few months. While I've played Ancyous nearly as many years as Kay, he has generally remained in the background more as his brother's advisor than central to any RP.

Long story short (and truly it is an extremely long story lol) Kay was named heir to Faerwhynne's throne. His twin brother became jealous and left, vowing to return with an army of necromancers to take what he believed 'rightfully his'. Kay and Ancy followed after him - ending up in Sosaria. Believing the only way he would be able to achieve his goal of finding and defeating Kellon was to stand his equal in evil, he sought a mentor in the ways of darkness Lord Ivitz - GM of the Eight Devils of Kimone. (Which is where I/Kay met the Cerberus' Aaron, Cheryl, Dean & Bryan, then known as the Maleficents.) After a time Kay did find his twin who forced a fight and found his end at the Pyramid of the Sphynx in Umbra.

The killing of his own brother drove Kay insane for a time, plunging him deeper and deeper into darkness. He ended up torching Jhelom, a crime for which he was imprisoned and tried. Guilty, he was executed but then resurrected by a goddess he prayed to at the time. Given a second chance at virtue, he was admitted into the Royal Guard where he quickly rose in rank to Lt. The Guard commander, however proved gravely corrupt and ended up betraying Kay - an act which sent him spiraling back into madness.

It wasn't long before Kay fell into the hands of the Dark Lord and after months of torture designed to break him he finally surrendered, becoming the Dark Lord's willing apprentice. During this time Kay was basically brain-washed into believing that caring for anything and anyone was a grievous weakness leading only to unrelenting pain, destruction and death. He became a heartless killer with thought only to please his Master. Dark days that brought him full circle - briefly returning to Faerwhynne where he killed his father . . . the very thing he had left there to prevent his brother from doing in the first place.

The Dark Lord abruptly departed Sosaria (quit UO), leaving Kay confused and alone. Ancyous brought him back to Faerwhynne with hope that the realm would understand the evil which had controlled the man who was now their king, allow him to sit upon the throne in forgiveness.

Then I went off on an entirely new direction, had a minion of the Dark Lord come to Faerwhynne and kill Ancyous at which point I wrote a forty page short story about Ancy based on Pirates of The Caribbean 3, but
anyway, back to Kay. I left Lake Superior shard and played on Catskills for a while. Kay decided to return to Sosaria for a time, attempt to find a way to forgive himself (having been successful in achieving the forgiveness of the people of his realm). He adopted the virtue of Humility and took the vows of a Templar - poverty, obedience & chastity. For a time he served as an elite guardsman in the Kingdom of Everthorne. Then, after that kingdom fell apart (the GM and co GM quit UO), he served as a knight under Aedon in the Village of Aegis. Finding himself once again betrayed he turned back to evil for a while, but when that became too much to bear (as in THAT GM too quit UO LOL), he/I moved to Atlantic.

On Atlantic he was able to once again take up his holy vows. He married, but remained chaste. After just over a year he left to pursue and destroy the witch who'd placed a curse upon his family (another looong story I'll leave for another time). In actuality I decided to leave the shard and created that storyline for reason. The witch has been destroyed (I have my own website where I do alot of my writing now and where that portion may be found) - and that brings Kay's story up to present. :)

I was about to apologize about my long post (as I do a lot of long posts hehe), but then read your last post ... 40 pages!!

:)

Very nice story lines, too bad those gms quit UO. Fortunately we have been going strong through all the changes the game throws at us. We have had 5 gms for PAS, but the guild had no breaks in having a gm, they were just passing the torch to another Elder to keep everything going.

I was the founder and first gm for 5 yrs, then Grey Wolf led us for about 4 months, then Almond Joy led us for about a year if I recall, then I came back into service to lead when AJ quit UO, and then handed that torch off to Tarie, who led us for about 7 months if I recall, and now Chalnoth leads us.

We had all gms with 2 names then Tarie and Chalnoth messed it up with one name characters *smiles*.

The gm job, for anyone that hasn't been a gm, can be overwhelming. I spent a good 40 hrs a week doing gm duties when I was the gm. Now PAS is a good sized guild, but even in smaller guilds there is a lot of work that goes into keeping things going, keeping the drama as low as possible, discussing alliances, etc with other guilds.

Thanks, and yes have had lots of GM's up and quit on me but that's just the way it often seems to go. I think it's absolutely wonderful that PAS has remained steady despite several changing of the guard, so to speak. I most certainly can imagine the time and effort GM'ing a guild must require and truly admire those strong enough to manage it. :)

LOL - about Ancy's story - is 40 pages printed out on paper, maybe 10 or so as posts on website. Was alot of fun to write.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO............all this said and done, when we gonna RP sir? Let's set a meeting with Chalnoth and talk about it some. I work Fri/Sat/Sun so won't be online a whole lot again until Monday. Will be watching my Rangers clinch the World Series tonite! *wink wink*

*looks at the Royal Attorneys*

*looks back at Chalnoth*

My attorneys have advised me that you are using a TECHNICALITY, which violates the PAS TOS .. fine print, paragraph 2,334 subpart 38D/17.445 (a1) and I quote: "Chalnoth has only one name, and if he tries to claim two names then he's using an illegal formation called a technicality and it doesn't count"

Nyah!

:)

And furthermore .. they say they had never heard anyone use your last name in vent or ingame, ergo you bought me a Falcon .... Wait thats not right. Ergo, you have only one legal name in Sonoma! Yeah that's the one.

Now don't force me to sick these attorneys after ya. They are downright mean :)

Well at least they refer to me by a name, not some alpha numeric short-cut...Kilo Delta! :P

As for the Royal Attorneys...What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the Ocean?...........

Yup...A Good Start!

Whats the difference between a dead attorney in the road and a dead skunk in the road? The dead skunk has break skid marks next to it.
