A quick update on Bob's (Maldar) status

Postby Maldar » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:58 pm

First, let me apologize for the delay in posting an update. It has been a very busy season of winter-related fires.

All things considered, he is doing fairly well. They are hoping to be able to med-evac him back to Indiana around the middle of March. That is tentative.

He hasn't been informed of the deaths of the men he was working with, as he has his own issues to work out and he is greatly depressed. The incisions from his multiple operations are healing nicely and his prognosis is good. He did have some internal bleeding that was discovered during a CT scan and that has stopped on its own after bleeding out approximately two (2) units of blood into his abdomen.

His daughter has informed me that you have a "private" message section on here and that she thinks he has possibly posted their address there before. If he trusts you that much, I don't see a reason why that can't be done again. She has also informed me that most of this is open to the public. Posting his address in anything public is unacceptable. I apologize for that. I will see if I can get a message to someone on here that has access to that private section and have them post his information there.

The family and I would like to thank you for your concerns, kind thoughts and prayers. I have read a few things on here (once again I apologize for that intrusion) and I have seen that you have had another serious tragedy. My sincere condolences to the lady's family for their grievous loss. Nobody has informed Bob of this either or I am certain he would do likewise.

Thanks for the update. It is very good to know that Maldar is improving and I definitely look forward to the time when he will be back to playing UO.

Indeed the general sections of the forum are open to public viewing, so you are correct in keeping private information off of that part of the site. I'm sure one of the forum moderators or guild officers will be in touch with you to help guide you on how/where/if to post any personal information.

Thank you again for the update. You are one heck of a friend to go to the trouble of keeping us informed; it is appreciated.

Asst. Chief Christopher Hutcheson, I can't thank you enough for updating this post about Maldar. He has many friends here who love him a lot, and we are always wondering how he is doing, and asking about him.

If you would be willing to send me his address in a private message, called a PM, I will promise never to post it, but to give it to those ingame friends I know would like to send him a card. I have been through a difficult health crisis in the past, and I know hearing from my UO friends made a difference. In truth, Maldar has made a huge difference in my life, being my friend, and I would like to be his friend and give him all the warmth and encouragement possible.

If you are willing to send me the address, please send it to me via PM, by clicking the PM slot at the bottom of my post, which will open up a private message post to me, and it will not be visible to the public.

God bless you for being such a great friend to him, and for keeping us informed.

For those who would like to send a card to Maldar, Asst. Chief Christopher Hutcheson has made this arrangement. Send a PM to Queen Mum on this board, requesting the address for Maldar. She will PM you the address. We have been asked to use this method only, and not to post his address anywhere, or give it out by other means (don't give it to other folks--let them PM Queen Mum also)

I have been very grateful to have the address, and have been sending him cards since I got it a couple days ago.

I'm praying every day for his recovery. I am sure it would mean a lot to him to know that others are thinking about him.

Bob Has Had a Very Serious Setback

Postby Maldar » Thu Mar 18, 2010 11:23 pm

Bob (aka Maldar) has had a setback. He is now septic (septicemia) and is entubated, back on a vent and has fallen into a coma. He is being given a lot of blood transfusions. Needless to say, he will not be moved back to his home state this week, as had been the plan. Things have gone downhill dramatically during the past week or so.
He was given a fistful of get-well cards and a DVD a few days before his fever hit 105.3 which is extremely dangerously high. A fever that high can do brain damage at the very least. The sepsis can easily kill him. So that gives you an idea of just how much more serious this has turned. He did tell his daughter to have me (or her) thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, cards and DVD. She said he had tears rolling down his face as he read the cards and that a couple of you had sent him multiple cards and the DVD. He was clearly very touched that you took time out of your busy lives in order to go out of your ways for him. I don't know if he got to watch the DVD before everything hit the fan but I did see it had been opened when I was reading what it was about. When he comes out of this, I am certain it will inspire him. His daughter told him about two friends of his in this game that have recently died. That was somewhat of a poor thing to have done (kristen, I apologize, if you read this eventually, but we have already talked it out). Bob became extremely emotional and had to be put to sleep via drugs to calm him down as he couldn't breathe from crying so hard. He told his daughter that he loved you guys/gals and he misses playing this game with you. I think it was his escape from the horrors he sees. I don't know what else to say.

Thank you for being his friends,

Asst. Chief Hutcheson, I truly thank you for your thoughtfulness in posting an update on Maldar. I am in tears after reading your message.

We shall continue praying and uplifting Maldar, and you and his family as well.

Thank you for sharing that he did get to read the cards, and see the DVD. I sent the DVD--its about a young friend of mine who lost her arm.

I just wish we could do something to help, but believe me, we are here for him if he can make it back to us.

God bless you and keep you. We will be praying for the Lord to look after Maldar.

FYI: Two of the arsonists responsible for the factory/warehouse fire have been identified and arrested. A warrant is out for the third one. They are all being charged with causing the death of firefighters in the line of duty and causing serious bodily injury to firefighters in the line of duty. The first charge carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

I'm glad to know that the people responsible for causing this disaster have been caught, so hopefully they won't be doing something like this again.

Please keep us updated about Bob.

Thanks very much.

Good news

Postby Maldar » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:11 pm

My apologies for not writing a little sooner. I had forgotten Bob's info to log back into this page and had to wait for his daughter to come back to Indiana to pick up some more clothes before I could get it.
The good news is, after nearly a month in his second coma, Bob is awake. They have him off of the respirator and he is talking. They managed to beat the sepsis. They have to perform a couple more surgeries. I think one on his leg again and another on his lung. He has lost a lot of weight. Kristen (his daughter) took a laptop to him but I am not looking for him to try to use it. He may surprise me, though. Not much he does surprises me any more. There is no word as to when he might be moved back to his home state.
On another note, the third arson suspect has been arrested. All three have been charged with a laundry list of offenses ranging from criminal trespass to causing the death of firefighters in the line of duty. If the authorities there can prove these heathens guilty, they will spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.
I haven't been able to fly back to see him since last month but I am going to try toward the end of this month. Kristen said he seems to be in better spirits but he is understandably wiped out.
That is about all I can think of at the moment.
